How to WorldFest

Your Guide to WorldFest-Houston

This guide covers everything you need to make the most of your festival experience. From how to submit your film to where to park, we’ve answered the questions creators ask most. Whether you’re submitting for the first time or returning as a veteran, our FAQs are here to help you every step of the way.

Want to Submit your Master Piece?

We want to experience your story and invite you to become part of the legacy of independent film history. Submit your film through FilmFreeway or HIIKE Independent to begin the official submission process. We look forward to discovering the next generation of Remi Award winners. Entries are open now for WorldFest60, and the Early Bird deadline is August 31, 2026.

Submissions & Categories

Explore our Submissions & Categories FAQs to find answers to your questions about how to submit your work and the different categories available.

How do I submit my film or screenplay?

Submissions go through FilmFreeway or HIIKE Independent. Both platforms carry the same deadlines and fees, and the same jury reviews every entry. Screenplays go through FilmFreeway only.

What categories can I enter?
We’ve got a wide range — features, shorts, docs, music videos, TV pilots, student films, and screenplays. You can access all of our categories here.
Do you accept works-in-progress?

No, we no longer accept works-in-progress. We expect picture locked entries. Reach out directly with specific questions and we'll do our best!

Fees, Discounts & Waivers

Explore our Fees, Discounts, and Waivers FAQs for details on pricing, available discounts, payment options, and how to request a waiver.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes! Alumni, students, and early birds often get special codes — keep an eye on our newsletters or drop us a line.

Do you offer full fee waivers?
Sorry, no. Entry fees help us keep the lights on, but we’ll always share discount codes when we can.
I’ve submitted before. Do alumni get a break?

Yep. Alumni are part of the WorldFest family, and we’re glad to offer returning discounts.

Judging & Notifications

Explore our Judging and Notification FAQs for information on the judging process and submission notifications.

How does judging work?

Entries are evaluated according to WorldFest's published criteria, including storytelling, originality, execution, and creative impact. We're looking for "a good story, well told": originality, craft, and heart rather than big budgets or big names.

When will I hear if my film is selected?
Notification dates are posted on FilmFreeway. Keep an eye on your inbox for updates.
Who is on your jury?

We have a rotating group of cinephiles, industry professionals, WorldFest award-winners and festival staff/volunteers. If you're interested in serving on the jury, apply here.
